Kitchen Batching System - No more missed ingredients!

April 10, 2018

Press Release Kitchen Batching System Sterling, IL April 15, 2017:  Sterling Systems & Controls, Inc. is pleased to announce the availability of its Kitchen Batching System effective immediately. The Kitchen Batching System is a semi-automatic ingredient batching system for the food industry, though it could be employed in many other industrial ingredient batching applications.  This multiple bin system requires operator involvement for the batching operation but it is also automated in the control of operator actions and assures accurate weighments and batches. Operator interruptions will no longer be a problem, and that means no more missed ingredients. The Kitchen Batching System also improves speed and overall efficiency of the ingredient batching process over a manual process.   Included in a typical customized Kitchen Batching System are: ·        Multiple ingredient bins/totes ·        Stainless Steel Table(s) ·        Moving weigh table w/ scale and touchscreen display ·        PC Control Panel with weight instruments   Each Kitchen Batching System is customized to include the maximum number of bins required by the customer’s specific formulas. The Kitchen System tables are sized to fit with the number of ingredient bins, and for operator comfort.  The tables are manufactured of stainless steel material, typically grade 304.  The ingredient tables are of rugged construction and are designed to be stationary. The scale platform table is designed to smoothly travel between the two ingredient tables.  The operator simply moves the scale platform table as needed to reach the next ingredient bins. The cabling from the scale and touchscreen display is mounted within a flexible cable carrier and is routed between the scale platform table and an adjacent ingredient table.   Sterling Systems & Controls can customize a system for our customers using standard control and automation components.  For the Kitchen Batching System we have used a PC (control panel mounted) and an industrial touchscreen monitor (scale platform table mounted). The control panel encloses the PC and other components to allow for its operation and interface with the monitor and scale. A weight indicator is also included mounted in the front door of the enclosure. A barcode scanner can also be provided for operation with the lot tracking part of the control system to assure batch validation.   Sterling Systems & Controls, Inc. has 40+ years of experience providing efficient solutions for process equipment, batching, micro, minor and bulk weighing, bag unloading systems, as well as plant automation.  Sterling’s designs utilize the latest technology to provide specialized data management, raw material management, along with production data tracking. Total Traceability and Validation

April 4, 2018

Sterling, IL March 2017:  Sterling Systems & Controls, Inc. is pleased to announce that lot tracking is available with all of its batching control systems and, like all other aspects of the Sterling Systems & Controls offering, can be customized to meet the needs of the customer.  Total Traceability and Validation can be provided on all manual hand-add or automatic batching control systems.   Background Lot tracking and total traceability is a requirement in many industries, particularly in the food industry where there are large commercial sale for human consumption and in the agriculture industry where chickens, cattle, and hogs are mass fed or the feed is commercially sold.  Many facilities and feed mills may get audited every few months, and in the animal feed industry the mill is required to present documentation or reports to the FDA showing their traceability. These reports come from the Sterling Systems & Controls feed mill batching control system.   What we can do Figure 1: HMI Control System Lot Table for Traceability Sterling Systems & Controls customized batching control systems can include as little or as much tracking and traceability as the customer wants to implement.  It will depend on the customer’s ability to fund and implement the tracking system.  Several inventory strategies are available.  FIFO is the most common. Operators will be required to enter a valid lot number before the system will proceed.  This data entry can be done by scanning a barcode, manual data entry and by RFID.  The Batching Control System will include an Ingredient Lot Table.  This contains records for each unique lot number of each ingredient.  New records are added to this table when the ingredient is received. Sterling’s systems can optionally be interfaced by remote users using our unique WebCentral™ supervisory control application.  For more information contact Sterling Systems & Controls at 1-815-625-0852 sci@sterlingcontrols.com, and at www.sterlingcontrols.com.

Added Safety & Productivity

April 4, 2018

Sterling, IL April 2017:  Sterling Systems & Controls, Inc. is pleased to announce that its Micro/Minor Ingredient Batching Systems can be provided with custom features that enhance personnel health and safety, along with added increases in productivity. Ingredient batching systems are multi-bin modular batching systems. As batches are made, the ingredients are emptied from the bins. Eventually the bins need to be refilled.   Filling the ingredient bins can be done manually or automatically. The former is the most common. Manual refilling of the ingredient bins is done by emptying small bags of ingredient material into the empty bins.  Bag weight usually is around 50-100lbs. The frequency of refilling depends on bin size and ingredient usage. Ingredient bags are usually transported on pallets.  Manual movement of bags from the floor to the top of the ingredient batching system to gain access to the bin access points, and the lift of bags to empty their contents into the ingredient bins can be time consuming and take its toll on the operator physically. A solution is needed to optimize productivity and minimize physical deterioration of the operator.   Sterling Systems & Controls, Inc. has introduced physical stress on the operator when filling ingredient bins fro 50+lbs bags stored on pallets. It also will increase overall productivity as the filling is done quicker, as well as safer. Sterling’s systems can optionally be interfaced by remote users using our unique WebCentral™ supervisory control application.  For more information contact Sterling Systems & Controls at 1-815-625-0852 sci@sterlingcontrols.com, and at www.sterlingcontrols.com.
