(Gafc) is a savings and loan holding company whose principal activity is the ownership and management of Greater Atlantic Bank (Gab or the Bank) and its wholly owned subsidiary, Greater Atlantic Mortgage Corporation (Gamc). Gab is a federally chartered savings bank. The Company offers traditional banking services to customers through its bank branches located throughout the greater Washington, Dc/Baltimore metropolitan area. Gafc's subsidiary, Greater Atlantic Capital Trust I, was formed to issue certain convertible preferred securities. The mortgage-banking activities conducted in Gamc were discontinued effective March 29, 2006. Gamc was involved primarily in the origination and sale of single-family mortgage loans and, to a lesser extent, multi-family residential and second mortgage loans.
Greater Atlantic Financial owns Greater Atlantic Bank and serves consumers and small to midsized businesses. The bank offers standard deposit products and services including checking, savings, and money market accounts; certificates of deposit; and IRAs.
